Unallocated Space is an open environment for anyone to come and "Teach, Learn, Build"

This space is provided by generous donations from you, the membership.

This page is dedicated to help explain the Tiers of membership and the general understanding as to why certain members are who they are.

This hackerspace is open to the general public, this means that anyone can walk through our doors while the space is "open". We pride ourselves on being able to provide general knowledge to the public at large. If someone comes in here and asks how something works a member will most likely help them. I say most likely because everything here is fueled by individual volunteers working collectively.

== Active Participants ==

Active participants are people who have taken an active interest in the space, and pay dues in some sort. Unallocated Space in general has a recommended dues of $100 per month, but only asks that you give what you can. == Keyholders ==

Keyholders are Active Participants with a significant investment both financially and physically into Unallocated Space succeeding. They dedicate a significant amount of time to keeping the space running and are generally the first and last person to speak to about any major event within the space. Bowie put up some information for a Magnetic Field Viewer + Inductive Table using Inductively powered LEDs and a inductively powered micro controller for the USA Science & Engineering Festival USA Science & Engineering Festival (www.usasciencefestival.org/) April 28th and 29th at Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

The total cost of the parts needed to build the table are roughly $210 plus shipping. If your are interested in participating and/or supporting this project, please contact Bowie or I.

A few folks decided we wanted to build a Ruben’s Tube tonight. After destroying a drillbit or two, we have a Ruben’s Tube for the space. The broken flamethrower was cannibalized, but it looks awesome.

Version 1
34in. pipe, Duck Tape, Computer speaker and the standard regulator
1in between holes roughly 5/32” big, 1/2in was too small.
1 in. between holes takes a long time to light, 1/2 in. between holes makes the flames join.

Notes for Phase 2:
Need bigger pipe ... probably 5 feet
3/4in might work, need to test, need better drill bit to test.
Two Drills bits later... we have determined once the pipe is heated, it is significantly harder to cut through
The tone generator is very nice for testing.
We need to be find a way to seal the tube but have a release since the tube holds way too much propane after the tank is off.

Two new Cisco devices came in today along with some awesome silent fans turning the beasts into quiet animals.

Unplugged the noisy cruddy internal fans, made a round hole with a dremmel and added 2 120mm fans to the 48 Port L3 Switch and 1 120mm fan to the 24 Port L2 Switch. The 48 port is going near the paper towel holder in the loft while the 24 port is going in the networking area.
