== Membership ==
Unallocated Space is an open environment for anyone to come and "Teach, Learn, Build"

This space is provided by generous donations from you, the membership.

This page is dedicated to help explain the tiers of membership and the general understanding as to why certain members are who they are.

== Participants ==

This hackerspace is open to the general public, this means that anyone can walk through our doors while the space is "open". We pride ourselves on being able to provide general knowledge to the public at large. If someone comes in here and asks how something works a member will most likely help them. I say most likely because everything here is fueled by individual volunteers working collectively.

== Members ==

Members are people who have taken an active interest in the space, and pay dues at some level. Unallocated Space in general has a recommended dues of $100 per month, but only asks that you give what you can. More information can be found on our [https://www.unallocatedspace.org/membership/ Dues] page.

== Keyholders ==

Keyholders are Active Participants with a significant investment both financially and physically into Unallocated Space succeeding. They dedicate a significant amount of time to keeping the space running and are generally the first and last person to speak to about any major event within the space. | Don't ever cut this material as it will ruin the optics, causes the metal of the machine to corrode as chlorine is released and ruins the motion control system.

| Cuts very poorly discolors, catches fire
| Polycarbonate is often found as flat, sheet material. The window of the laser cutter is made of Polycarbonate because ''polycarbonate strongly absorbs infrared radiation!'' This is the frequency of light the laser cutter uses to cut materials, so it is very ineffective at cutting polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a poor choice for laser cutting. It creates long stringy clouds of soot that float up, ruins the optics and messes up the machine.

| ABS does not cut well in a laser cutter. It tends to melt rather than vaporize and has a higher chance of catching on fire and leaving behind melted gooey deposits on the vector cutting grid. It also does not engrave well (again, tends to melt). Cutting ABS plastic emits hydrogen cyanide, which is unsafe at any concentration.

Higher power/current will cut with fewer passes, however, the acrylic may overheat and chip along the cut line. If you find yourself with small chips along the cut, lower the power/current and up the passes.

= Rotary =

= Jellys Lessons learned

* Always run a perimeter before cutting
* Do move the laser "up and down" before every print to verify that the laser is aligned to the center of your material.
* Enable rotary in web UI by going to Settings and something in the second tab. The UI on the engraver doesn't alwatys work.
* Do always align your material with the buck. Also check the level of your item. You always want to cut at a consistent level. ESPECIALLY important when working on glasses that are inherently uneven.
* It doesn't matter where you place your stencil/image/shapes in the laser engraver software. The SIZE is what matters.

= How to use?

1) Remove existing bed. Insert some wood about 4 inches thick

2) Insert rotary and connect 4 pin molex like connector

3) Switch Muse to rotary mode in web ui

4) Place material to cut on rotary. Modify the 12 knobs such that your material is consistently level.

5) Cry on the inside and outside because it's really hard to do all of this manually.

6) Use the left <-> right move buttons we typically use to move the laser, to now rotate your material.
* Watch the back of your material to make sure it doesn't "lift up" (super important with lighter materials).

7) Place laser over center of material, or wherever you intent to center your cut.

8) Calibrate laser height with puck.

9) Place images/shapes in the UI.
10) VERIFY that the orientation of the material is consistent with the orientation of the rotary.

Wire diagram:

Audio Amplifier input: left and right channels go to pre-amp left/right channels.
Audio Amplifier output: one pair of cables for each of the two speakers on top of bathroom (left and right speakers).

Audio PreAmp input: Input 1 is an RCA (red and white) cable converted to 3.5mm plugged into the rear of the instructor desktop (green 3.5mm port).
Audio PreAmp input: Input MP3 is a crazy long 3.5mm cable (like 25ft) that is disconnected. To be connected as needed to third party devices such as laptops or cell phones for presentations/music.
Audio PreAmp output: left and right channels go to amplifier left/right channels.

Instructor workstation: Green 3.5mm audio output is converted to RCA (red and white) to pre-amp input 1.

Power on instructions:
1. Set "Audio PreAmp" to on by pressing power button on left. The button will illuminate RED when on.
2. Set "Audio Amplifier" on by pressing power button on right. An LED will illuminate BLUE when on.
3. Identify audio source as a 3rd party device or instructor desktop.
3a. Instructor desktop: Set "Input" on "Audio PreAmp" to "1" by turning "input" nob.
3b. 3rd party device with 3.5mm audio jack: Set "Input" on "Audio PreAmp" to "MP3" by turning "input" nob.
4. Play audio.
5. Tune "Volume" nob on "Audio PreAmp" to comfortable levels.

= Jellys Lessons learned

* Always run a perimeter before cutting
* Do move the laser "up and down" before every print to verify that the laser is aligned to the center of your material.
* Enable rotary in web UI by going to Settings and something in the second tab. The UI on the engraver doesn't alwatys work.
* Do always align your material with the buck. Also check the level of your item. You always want to cut at a consistent level. ESPECIALLY important when working on glasses that are inherently uneven.
* It doesn't matter where you place your stencil/image/shapes in the laser engraver software. The SIZE is what matters.

= How to use?

1) Remove existing bed. Insert some wood about 4 inches thick

2) Insert rotary and connect 4 pin molex like connector

3) Switch Muse to rotary mode in web ui

4) Place material to cut on rotary. Modify the 12 knobs such that your material is consistently level.

5) Cry on the inside and outside because it's really hard to do all of this manually.

6) Use the left <-> right move buttons we typically use to move the laser, to now rotate your material.
* Watch the back of your material to make sure it doesn't "lift up" (super important with lighter materials).

7) Place laser over center of material, or wherever you intent to center your cut.

8) Calibrate laser height with puck.

9) Place images/shapes in the UI.
10) VERIFY that the orientation of the material is consistent with the orientation of the rotary.

| Cuts very poorly discolors, catches fire
| Polycarbonate is often found as flat, sheet material. The window of the laser cutter is made of Polycarbonate because ''polycarbonate strongly absorbs infrared radiation!'' This is the frequency of light the laser cutter uses to cut materials, so it is very ineffective at cutting polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a poor choice for laser cutting. It creates long stringy clouds of soot that float up, ruins the optics and messes up the machine.

| ABS does not cut well in a laser cutter. It tends to melt rather than vaporize and has a higher chance of catching on fire and leaving behind melted gooey deposits on the vector cutting grid.
